North Byron Hotel: the pub that is not in town
The quietest of the four pubs in the register, at Belongil, and the only one you would not stumble into.

What it is
A pub at Belongil, west of the centre, with indoor dining, a deck and lawn seating, a kitchen and a live-music programme. Its own description leans hard on being away from the crowds, which is an unusual thing for a pub to advertise and in this case an accurate one.
4 pubs trade in the shire. 3 of them are in the middle of town and take the weight of the town's evenings between them. This is the fourth.
What being out of the centre changes
A town-centre pub in Byron inherits its crowd: people arrive because they are already on the street and the kitchens have closed. A pub at Belongil has to be chosen, which selects for a different evening — earlier, more likely to involve a meal, and less likely to be the fourth place you have been that night.
It also means transport. Belongil looks walkable on a map and mostly is not after dark, which is the same calculation every venue on the hinterland page presents in a larger form.
Belongil itself is worth understanding before you plan the evening. It runs west along the beach from the town centre and it looks continuous with Byron on a map, but the walk back at night is along an unlit stretch and most people who try it once do not try it twice. Treat it as a short drive and the pub is a genuinely different evening; treat it as a walk and it becomes a taxi you had not budgeted for.
What a pub does that a restaurant cannot
The difference is licensing before it is anything else. A pub can sell a drink without selling a meal, keep the room open after the kitchen closes, and put a band in the corner. Almost nothing else in this register can do all three.
That is why four buildings carry a disproportionate share of the town's evenings, and why a pub away from the centre is a genuinely different proposition: it has to be chosen, not fallen into, which changes who is in it.
The function room is the business
Its own site gives more room to functions, weddings and a DJ line-up than to eating, and it publishes no menu at all while running a table-booking platform. That is the shape of a pub whose floor earns more from booked events than from the dinner trade.
For a visitor that matters in one practical way. A room filling with a function does not announce it in advance, and the booking platform is the only place the answer exists before you arrive.
